There was only one available as of last night, is there any chance another cheap seat might become available? Are my only chances of getting another cheap seat like hers is if someone cancels or do they open up more web special cheap seats closer to the flight date?

Might be a way Airtran gets people to buy the next higher priced ticket by only showing 1 seat available at the cheap price........I guess its a marketing way to sell 2 seats at a time figuring people won't wait and purchase the second ticket at the higher price.
Sort of. Modern yield management models often open up more lower fare class seats closer to departure. Getting some revenue for a seat > getting no revenue at all (so long as it doesn't push the flight into an oversell).
All this is assuming you are talking about the weekend sale fares.
EDIT: I just reread your post and saw this was for a flight 3 months out.
