$500 to spend and no where to go

  • I have a $500 unused ticket with AC that expires on Feb. 16 (the issue date was Feb. 16, 2001). AC rules prohibit extending it (I even offered to pay a fee). Ideally, I would like to use it for a quick hop (2-3 days max as a I have a newborn at home) to LHR or FRA since I have family there and I can get lots of miles. However, I can't find any flights for less than $950 (I tried Expedia). I'd be willing to fork over a couple of hundred more at most.

    Can anyone find any flights?

    If that doesn't work, where can I fly (before Feb. 16) for $500 for one night that maximize miles received ?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    I should have guessed from the low low prices. Caught by the fine print again.

  • Wait for the seat sale fares to be loaded into the system tonight. You should be able to get some better prices tomorrow. If you need help on picking flights, give us your dates and we'll work it out for you once the seat sale fares are in the system after 12am tonight.


  • Remember, s/he indicated only can stay 2 or 3 days and all European flights appear to require 7-day minimum stay. London may not, but on these types of seat sales these tend to also. This limits destination to US and Canada.


  • If you can't use it, you could always donate it to a respectable charity.

    1)I'd be flying out of Toronto.
    2) It's an actual ticket which would convert to a crdit in my name so I guess that I could make it 2 x $250 tickets.
    3) Yes I have been lurking for over a year.
    4) Travel has to start by Feb. 16.

    I see on the seat sale press release:
    Under $400 dollars from Western Canada to Europe.
    Eastern Canada to Isreal $509

    Is it a ticket or an MCO?

    Do you have to travel by Feb 16th or just purchase a ticket?

    Can you convert the $500 to two $250 tickets?

    Makes for a lot of options maybe.
