It has been more than 2 months, and miles still have not been posted...so I emailed AAdvantage...they said, "Unfortunately, your travel was booked in an ineligible inventory, indicated by the booking code on your ticket, so we are unable to credit your account as requested." I replied and said my ticket was in B, while booking in U, maybe it's why the confusion occurred...then I got a reply today, saying that my booking is in class W. Any idea where this W come from ??
Anyway, I know I can send them my ticket receipt and boarding pass to get the miles...but, is it really what I need to do (request for credit afterwards) everytime I take a CX flight in upgraded business/first and want to credit to AAdvantage ?
Since CX uses the same code U for upgraded business and award business, in fact I have been expecting this anyway, that they cannot distinguish mine (that is eligible for coach miles) vs a free award (not eligible for miles)...the same case for the All Asia Pass, which is not eligible for miles...while transpacific business booked in I, this subclass itself is eligible for miles...wonder how their systems handle this...
I last upgraded CX economy -- it was booked under M, I think -- in September using AsiaMiles and had it credited to AAdvantage. But I also had to email AAdvantage and fax in the boarding passes and the ticket photocopy. (I did not mail them.)
I did not post this, as I thought it is a bit outdated. But I just read the other post by tfung and was reminded of this ....
They shouldn't have bothered you that much .... I am sorry to hear it.
I am really desperate now...I have been emailing AA, faxing them my ticket/boarding passes, etc...but the latest email that I sent a few days ago didn't even get me a reply...any suggestions ??
I'm very disappointed - the worst ever experience I have had as an elite member of various airlines/hotels... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Ask for a csr supervisor..explain the situation and it pays to be polite.
Good luck.
The first letter of the fare basis is the class you paid for, and that's what determines if you get miles or not. Be patient and send (or fax) AAdvantage a copy of your ticket (circling the fare basis doesn't hurt) and boarding passes (circling from/to, flight, date). In general I've found people there aren't real bright, but if you do their work for them (like circling the important stuff) the credit goes through without a hitch.
Good luck!
Let's just say that someone does care. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Yes, I, too, was pleasantly surprised when I posted the message above .... It's good to know that there's someone who cares. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
finally...FewMiles told one of his "angels" about my case...I received an email from the very helpful staff the same day...what I then needed to do was just to give my name and AAdv #...my emails and fax (ticket/boarding passes) were found and confirmed to be eligible...and the miles were posted within a few hours !!
thanks everyone !! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
You have mail.
Photocopy your ticket , and boarding pass.
Write a detailed letter to AAdvantage, and advise them that the ticket you purchased is in B class which is eligible for miles.
But you used your Asiamiles miles to upgrade that flight to Business Class which Cathay Pacific codes as U. Tell them that U is used for BOTH free award tickets AND upgrade awards on Cathay Pacific.
AAdvantage must ADVISE Cathay Pacific of this otherwise CX's auto response is that it is a free ticket hence no miles.
I used to have so much problems regarding this upgrade-awards that I just accrue my upgrade miles to Asiamiles. Less hassle and the miles credit automatically. Note that this 'auto' credit system only works with Asiamiles and no one else!

I don't think it's fair that I need to credit this to Asia Miles instead of AAdvantage just because of this unseamless nature of the alliance...do you think there is anyone that I could write to (either CX and AA) who can handle this more professionally, and they should be changing this - I shouldn't be the one who's going to do all this extra work all the time.
Sorry...I just feel very frustrated...no one at AA or CX seems to care about this...I have been wasting so much time on it...hopefully becoming EXP would be well worth all these efforts...
