If we want to clean up and relax should we try to shower in the Arrivals Lounge or Maple leaf Lounge? Can we access the Arrivals Lounge? Rules say:
The Plaza Premium Arrivals Lounge located in the International Terminal Building is available to eligible members arriving to Canada from any Air Canada overseas flight, and holding a confirmed same day overseas boarding pass. Now we will be arriving on an overseas flight, but unless our used boarding pass qualifies as a "same day overseas boarding pass" the only boarding pass we will have is the one back to LAX.
Now if we miss the 11:15 am flight we will have to get our ticket changed. So we may do best gong straight to the Maple Leaf lounge. In Vancouver, there are three of them. Vancouver - Domestic - Pier C, Vancouver - International - Pier D and Vancouver - Transborder - Pier E. Now both my flight in from HKG and flight out to LAX use terminal M. I assume the flight out is near the Transborder lounge in Pier E. Is it and is Pier E part of terminal M. Only the Pier E lounge is listed as having showers.
Question -- am I better off using the showers in the Arrivals Lounge on in the maple Leaf Lounge in Pier E?
Hopefully this is all academic as I will make my 11:15 to LAX and not have time to stop in any lounge. Today 008 is in flight and due in on time. Last two days it ranged from 23 minutes late (likely missed connection) to 1hr 18 mins late (sure miss). Oh well....
Setup starts about 10:45 and only lasts a few minutes. Usually the first round can be finished before 11:00. ^
Whew...that's good to know. :D
As to your question, you will not have time to use the AL because of your tight connection. When you get off your international flight you will be directed away from the hords clearing Canadian immigration for domestic arrivals and connections, to a separate path for those continuing on to the USA. You will then have to clear both Canadian and US immigration, and collect your checked bags through Customs to move through the US pre-clearance customs procedure.
This will channel you away from the exit landside where the AL is located, and towards the far end of the terminal where transborder flights are processed. Once you're airside again, you may have a bit of time left to use the transborder MLL. However, I don't believe it has showers, but you could use its washrooms to freshen up a bit.
Go to the YVR website and check "connections". It will detail the exact process you will follow upon arrival to get to US Pre-Clearance.
I didn't think the alcohol was set out until after 11:30am in the MLLs.
I believe you are correct. I can certainly confirm that there are no showers in the INTL lounge. I think I remember seeing the shower symbol on a door in the transborder MLL.

And Tracon, thanks. I suspected that the Arrivals Lounge would not be much. If late I will head for the MLL in Pier E, whatever that is.

Either of you may be right.
International Arrivals to U.S.A. Departures
There are two inspection processes available for International passengers transiting to U.S.A. Destinations. To find out which process you should follow, please ask your airline representative when checking in at your originating International departing point.
Option 1: Allows passengers to bypass Canada Customs and Immigration.
Option 2: Requires Canada Customs and Immigration clearance
Hope I get Option 1 on arrival from HKG.
