Just got word of a trip to the UK in July 2003 (yes, that's 2 years from now). I'll want to book 2 FC award tickets, and I'm assuming availability will be scarce so I want to book early. How far ahead of time can I do this?
We went to London in April of this year, the week before Easter (returning the day before Easter). We booked 3 FC award tickets. We made the reservations in early September for travel in early April, which was 7 months in advance. Going to the UK, I got the exact flights I wanted with no problem. Returning, I couldn't get on my first choice of flight, but had no trouble getting on my second choice. I was told that the difficulty was that we were traveling close to Easter.
I believe on AA it is 330 or 331 days in advance from the individual segment travel date -- ie, if you play this game you wil need to book the outbound and then call back x days later and book the return.

This is exactly correct. I am in the process of planning a two week trip to Europe (SEA-ORD-LHR) for the latter part of June 2002. I have heard both numbers, 330 and 331 for the number of days AA's computer can see flights that are loaded into the system.
I presently have 4 F-Class seats booked with seat assignments on my first choice of flights. This weekend I will call to book the return flights which are for early July.
To save yourself the pain of the mental gymnastics for date calculation i.e. today +330, please point your browser to:

A very useful and interesting site. Good luck.
