How can a parent legally give up their parental rights so that a teenager can live on their own ?

  • the said teenager is seventeen has income and is very responsible and this is in the state of Arizona

  • Big freakin deal. Seventeen is still seventeen and why would a parent give up their parental rights???? That's moronic especially when they legally end for the most part at eighteen. What is so important that it can't wait until 18. That doesn't make sense. Why the rush?

  • Teenager should petition the court for emancipation.

  • Giving up ones parental right is giving up the child as being your own.
Is that what you truly want? Laws change on this issue and vary from state to state.I think calling a lawyer for advice would be the best thing to do.

  • At the age of 14 a dependant can petition the court for emancipation. The papers necessary may be found at the local courts website or by visiting. They may even have an office for free help.
