A drug used for specific types of irregular heartbeats.

How the Moricizine Product Works:

Moricizine prevents the occurrence of certain types of heart disturbances involving the ventricle of the heart that lead to serious life-threatening situations.

Uses of The Moricizine:

To treat life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances. Because of certain effects of this drug, moricizine use should be reserved for patients in whom the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks.

Unlabeled Uses: Occasionally doctors may prescribe moricizine for certain other heart rhythm disturbances.

Precautions:

Heart Rhythm Disturbances: New or worsened heart rhythm disturbances can result from taking moricizine, especially in patients with serious or advanced heart disease. Close monitoring and careful dosage adjustment will be required.

Pregnancy: Adequate studies have not been done in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed and potential benefits outweigh the possible hazards to the fetus.

Breastfeeding: Moricizine appears in breast milk. Because of the potential for serious adverse effects, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Consult your doctor.

Children:Safety and effectiveness in children under 18 have not been established.

Lab Tests: LAb tests may be required during treatment with moricizne. Tests may include : Electrocardiograms;kidney and liver function tests.

Drug Interactions:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or planning to take any overthe-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements with moricizine. Doses of one or both drugs may need to be modified or a different drug may need to be prescribed. The following drugs and drug classes interact with moricizine:

Cimetidine (eg, Tagamet)

Digoxin (eg, Lanoxin)

Propranolol (eg, Inderal)

Theophylline (eg, Theo-Our)

Side Effects:

Every drug is capable of producing side effects. Many moricizine users experience no, or minor, side effects. The frequency and severity of side effects depend on many factors including dose, duration of therapy, and individual susceptibility. Possible side effects include:

Digestive Tract: Nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; stomach pain; indigestion; appetite loss; gas; bitter taste; intestinal blockage.

Nervous System: Dizziness; drowsinesss; headache; fatigue; nervousness; restlessness; sleep disturbances; vertigo (feeling of whirling motion); abnormal coordination or movement; tremor; anxiety; depression; confusion; seizures; coma; hallucinations; memory loss; euphoria (exaggerated sense of well being); agitation; abnormal gait; weakness.

Circulatory System: Palpitations (pounding in the chest); chest pain; changes in heart rate and blood pressure; heart rhythm disturbances; heart failure; heart attack or stroke.

Respiratory System: Difficult, accelerated or cessation of breathing; asthma; cough; sore throat; inflamed sinuses.

Urinary and Reproductive Tract: Urinary retention, frequency or incontinence; kidney pain; difficult or painful urination.

Skin: Rash; dry skin; itching; hives; abnormal or decreased sensation; sweating. Senses: Blurred vision; double vision; involuntary eye movements; eye pain; ringing in the ears; difficulty speaking.

Other: Dry mouth; difficulty swallowing; swollen lips and tongue; decreased sex drive; impotence; abnormally low body temperature or fever; edema (fluid retention) around the eye socket; muscle and bone pain; fainting; temperature intolerance.

Guidelines for Use:

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Serious heartbeat disturbances can result from taking too much or too little of this drug. Dosage changes must be supervised by your doctor.

Contact your doctor immediately if you develop chest pain or discomfort, palpitations (pounding in the chest), irregular heartbeat or fever.

Unless instructed otherwise by your doctor, if a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to do so by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed or it is necessary to establish a new dosage schedule, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Use exactly as prescribed .

Hospitalization is required when starting on this medication.
